Login to Send MessageOutward Bound NZ is one of Aotearoa NZ’s leading outdoor education providers. We are based in Anakiwa, Totaranui/Queen Charlotte Sound where we have been operating since 1962. At the centre of our students experience are our Kaiako/Instructors who play a huge role in ensuring the quality and safety of our courses.
Through the use of adventure in and around Te Taiao, our natural world, our students connect with their environment, their peers, and themselves in an experience facilitated and led by our Kaiako. Outward Bound NZ is committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, environmental sustainability and hauora/health. We have a growing relationship with Te Atiawa (local Manawhenua) and with Te Ao Maori which is continuing to develop our practice.
Kaiako/Instructor Specific:
During an Outward Bound course, two Kaiako | Instructors work with each group of 14 students. The Kaiako stay with their group or ‘watch’ for the whole course, so we need to employ ‘generalist’ instructors who can lead groups white water kayaking, tramping, sailing, rock climbing, and in the high ropes course. Instructors also need to have excellent people skills and must be able to both manage the safety of their students in challenging backcountry outdoor settings and facilitate learning and development by delivering the Outward Bound New Zealand Kaupapa.
Kimi Kaiako | Recruitment Courses
We have a 5 day recruitment course in Jan and Feb 2025 for the appropriate applicants to get a taste of OBNZ, see more on our website below.
