Wake up in one of our staff accommodations not 5 star but has all you need, kitchen, laundry, lounge, fire, and a great team to yarn and have fun with. Once you have downed your coffee and morning grub you roll into the morning staff briefing at 8.40am bright eyed and bushy tailed. Ready to facilitate one of our many varied programmes. From hard top centre based programmes with adaptive groups to, adventure camps and expeditions. Your programme days are guaranteed to be challenging and varied. Lunch maybe on the go or had back at the lodge depending on the programme ready for the afternoon of activities. With two high ropes courses, a magnitude of low ropes and initiatives, 2 abseils, a rock climbing crag, a canyon, tubing, swimming holes, rivers... the list goes on, you are sure to be engaged and have fun.
Typically you will wrap up with the group back at the lodge at 5pm where you can return to the staff house to chill, share stories and rest for the night. -

Because of the large nature of our scope, Y Outdoors instructors are required to perform many different tasks including instructing multiple activities with a wide age range of participants, hosting groups, site readiness tasks such as cleaning, gear management and safety checks, performing day and night duties as necessary, and a host of other responsibilities that help keep Y Outdoors running smoothly.
Instructors are also required to work across multiple sites (we have bases in Wellington and Tongariro) for the duration of the season, however, we do try and have a home base for instructors that live locally to one of those locations.

These 6+ roles involve facilitating meaningful outdoor and social experiences, enhancing skills, and fostering personal growth for participants across diverse environments.Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and specialized sessions in areas of sea kayaking, SuP, rafting, dragon boating, hiking, packrafting, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, white water kayaking, rock climbing, bouldering, school camps, corporate team building, tourism and travel (private guided driving tours), snorkeling, winter/alpinism and much more.
SNM also travels the country setting up glamping tents for weddings, festivals and events.
We work with Kiwi Rail and Great Journeys of New Zealand: you may travel AKL-ZQN / ZQN-AKL tour guiding over 17 days.
We repair many composite kayaks, waka ama, paddles etc.
You may be responsible for warehouse and office duties: packing and sending shop products, packing and prepping jobs, computer-based admin work (home or office), cleaning and maintenance.

Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, with the ability to manage group dynamics and individual development.Working Conditions
Most job postings are full-time (including winter). Flexible contracts including seasonal, fixed-term, and casual options are negotiable (e.g. if you want to travel globally).
Competitive remuneration, including training and gear allowances, bonuses, commission, frequent travel nationally and internationally (less frequent), fuel travel cards, phone and plan and cash-tips.
Programs involve variable schedules, weekends, night-tours, sunrise-tours which staff share and rotate through.
Busy season October-April yet still with Winter work.

Roles are available in diverse locations; SNM runs programs and experiences throughout New Zealand. We have bases/warehousing in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Wanaka.
Currently we are seeking most people to be based in Auckland, accepting a few others between Christchurch and Queenstown regions.
These 6+ roles are to start around October 2025. We can negotiate earlier/later starts depending on varying circumstances and we are ok for people to ‘chase summers’.How to Apply
