Alpine Guides (Aoraki) Ltd
Mountains Define Us
Your new “office” could be the mighty Haupapa, Tasman Glacier!
If you love the outdoors and want to work in the exciting and fast pace of adventure tourism, we are hiring for this summer and would love to hear from you.
Alpine Guides (AGL) is looking for experienced glacier guides, or people new to guiding, but with a passion to become a guide through our glacier “apprenticeship”. Ideally, you’ll start with us in late September.
Every day you’ll fly with small groups onto the ice of the Haupapa. You’ll be exploring, keeping groups safe, and showing them the natural wonders of the ice. You’ll need your storytelling hat on, providing interpretation relating to Ngai Tahu’s values, the general history, geology, and geography of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, and imparting the principles of Tiaki.
Alpine Guides is the most diverse mountain guiding business in NZ. For those keen to progress further on the NZMGA climb and ski pathways, we offer financial and training support. You’ll get to trade experiences and receive mentorship from some of NZ’s most experienced mountain professionals.
You need to
• Have a friendly and outgoing personality — able to communicate clearly with our team, your guests, and our business partners
• Not be afraid of being challenged, and learning new skills
• Have a climbing, or tramping, or rock climbing experience, or other outdoor guiding experience
• Be an effective and supportive team player
• Have excellent physical fitness
• Have attention to detail, excellent time-management skills
• Have a high standard of personal presentation
• Have a clean driver’s license
• A cool head and focus on safety as your utmost priority
What you get
• Competitive pay and industry-leading conditions
• A full uniform and equipment
• Financial support for first aid training and refreshers (PHEC)
• Further financial support for training on the NZMGA pathway
• An in-depth induction and training program, to get you guiding your own groups
• A supportive team environment
• Guaranteed minimum hours
• Access to staff accommodation
• To work in one of the world’s most spectacular locations
We’ll assess applications as they come in, so don’t delay. Send in your CV and tell us why you’d like to work with us.
