Located midway between the West Coast glacier towns and Queenstown, Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki sits on the shores of the Moeraki River, surrounded by ancient rainforests of Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. Few places on earth can match the lodge’s stunning natural setting. Walk wild seacoast home to seals and rare penguins, kayak pristine lakes, and explore this unique landscape alongside expert naturalist guides. Premium accommodation, delicious food, and warm hospitality, sets the Wilderness Lodge experience apart. Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki is family-owned and has been at the forefront of nature protection and conservation for over 35 years.
We are seeking two Nature Guides to join our team at Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki. Lead engaging small group nature adventures and share your passion for nature, wildlife and conservation. This is a unique opportunity to hone your guiding and naturalist skills with a pioneering New Zealand nature tourism business.
Two full time/fixed term (Sept/Oct to April) roles are available. These may suit a couple. Duties will primarily involve leading our guided activities but as a small team working in remote location, we value versatility. The successful candidate(s) will engage in a range of other lodge duties when not guiding. This is a live-in position, with accommodation and meals provided at a cost.
We additionally have a similar role available for a Guide at Wilderness Lodge Arthur’s Pass. Wilderness Lodge Arthur’s Pass sits on a 4000-acre farm & nature reserve surrounded by the spectacular Arthur’s Pass National Park. There are a range of activities to explore, guided adventures to discover nature and farm life – kayak, hike, search for rare wildlife, watch sheep-dogs in action & learn about growing fine merino wool. If you would like to know more about this role, please send through your CV to [email protected]
The Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki’s guided activities include short introductory trips (around 1 hr duration) which share with guests the rainforests, lakes and rivers, birdlife and night sky. Longer half day trips traverse the coastline, valleys and waterways further afield. While some trips include an element of physical challenge, they are generally fun and relaxed with an emphasis on nature interpretation, wildlife spotting and personal interaction. Most involve easy/moderate walking with some flatwater kayaking.
