Stony Batter is a historic, defence, installation. It is sited within a 50-acre (200,000 m2) scenic reserve of the same name, owned by the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC). The park serves double duty as a historical (Category 1 Historic Place) and nature reserve, containing unusual rock formations, associated with an extinct volcano, three significant bush blocks and three concrete gun emplacements with an extensive tunnel system, reputed to be the largest in New Zealand.
The Tunnel Supervisor and Lead Guide role will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, preservation, and presentation of the Stony Batter World War II Tunnel system. The role ensures that guided tours run safely, professionally, and respectfully, while the tunnels, structures, and surrounding environment are maintained to the highest heritage and safety standards.
This is a hands-on, collaborative role with the Tourism department at Man O’ War, DOC, and Iwi representatives from Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki combining people management, operational planning, heritage stewardship, and practical maintenance oversight.

You will need to have experience in team management and tourism operations and preferably have experience in heritage, conservation, museums, or historic sites. You will need guiding or interpretation experience (history, military, or cultural storytelling). In addition, trade, engineering, construction or a facilities management background will be highly regarded.
